Pre-AP Art

Our Pre-AP art program is the precursor for AP Art and Design. You will create art projects while exploring media such as Photoshop, pencil, colored pencil pastels, paintings, photography, mixed media, and an optional 3-D sculpture so that you will be prepared to take AP Art and Design if you choose to.

7 STUDENTS ENROLLED

Welcome to Pre-AP®

Pre-AP® is designed to address a range of abilities and technical skill development, but also the purposeful refinement and revision of creative work, as well as a student’s ability to reflect on and communicate about that work. Pre-AP Arts students will not submit portfolios or performance documentation for external review and scoring by College Board. Key to this program are student work and written statements:

Student Work:  This may be represented as a portfolio of works or process documentation created throughout the module. There are twelve works students will complete that cover a range of techniques and approaches including drawing, painting, collage, digital work, and 3D work.
Written Statements: These written statements are guided by specific prompts that encourage students to thoroughly describe their work and reflect on the process of creating and refining it; sometimes the final written statements involve revisiting, revising, and building on shorter statements that students wrote earlier in the module.

Students will create 12 finished works in this course.

What Will I Learn?

There are at least 20 projects students can choose from to create 12 finished works. Throughout the course, our experienced instructors provide excellent guidance and critique each student individually. Consequently, no matter the skill level of the student, each student will progress at a pace that is appropriate. Students will be able to create work with knowledge of:

  • Drawing and Painting, including Digital Drawing
  • A Variety of Media, including Photoshop
  • How to Prepare for AP Art & Design

The media students will be using include among others pencil, colored pencils, digital drawing, acrylic paint, watercolor, ink, collage, scratchboard, pastels and mixed media. They will:

  • Develop Ideas through Experimentation, Revision, and Refinement
  • Visualize Concepts using Reference Materials
  • Synthesize Materials, Processes and Ideas.

How Do We Teach and How Long is the Course?

Our assignments are fun and easy and will not be laborious.  More than likely, the creative impulse is a stress reliever from school work. In six months they will be fully ready, if they choose, to take our AP Art and Design course after having created 12 finished works of art.  If that is not the goal, this course will teach students how to enhance their creative side through art making while learning important skills.

We embrace individuality and promote the idea that every student is different.  We Creativity, provocative ideation, thinking outside of the box, and finding a personal voice are the most important factors for a successful portfolio.  We have been researching and studying over the past eight years how best to develop these key ingredients using our state-of-the-art learning management system.

Online Teaching Method
iArt’s online teaching method uses real time, face-to-face instruction via Zoom so that students and teachers can communicate effectively. We also synchronize online lessons with our superior Learning Management System (LMS) that contains all lessons by week, including all assignments, supplemental resources, links, videos, and power points with 24/7 access at all times.

Class Meetings
Class will be held two times a week at a time that is convenient for you, with unlimited contact via text and email, any day and at any time. You will meet one-on-one with your instructor in “real time” Zoom meetings and complete approximately one work of art every two weeks.
