Description
Pre-AP® addresses conceptual, technical, and critical thinking skills that can support student success in the AP 2-D Art and Design program. This course focuses on refining a students’ drawing and visual communication skills using the elements and principles of art and design, while experimenting with various mediums. Students create 12 finished works in this course.
Throughout this process, our experienced instructors provide excellent guidance and critique each student individually. Consequently, no matter the skill level of the student, each student will progress at a pace that is appropriate. Students will be able to create work with knowledge of:
- Drawing and Painting, including Digital Drawing
- A Variety of Media, including Photoshop
- How to Prepare for AP Art & Design
The media students will be using are pencil, colored pencils, digital drawing, acrylic paint, watercolor, ink, collage, scratchboard, pastels and mixed media. They will:
- Develop Ideas through Experimentation, Revision, and Refinement
- Visualize Concepts using Reference Materials
- Synthesize Materials, Processes and Ideas.
The AP Art and Design Portfolio
The AP Art and Design portfolio is a college-level art program backed by College Board that prepares students wanting to submit a high-quality art portfolio to art colleges and universities. Students will create a variety of works of art that deal with the principles and elements of art and drawing issues as they relate to variety of media and ideas. This course is:
- For students planning to apply to art colleges, the AP Art and Design course will prepare a college art portfolio that is specific to the college(s) in which you are applying.
- For a student who is planning to apply for a non-art major, an AP Art and Design portfolio will help you to stand out in your college application with this unique art supplement that highlights your creativity.
Course Description
AP Art and Design is an essential course that instills college-level design skills through a knowledge and understanding of the art and design principles. Students will be required to keep a sketchbook that contains ideas, doodles, and even work for the portfolio. Students apply the elements of art and design to their own work through an understanding of how to organize these elements while working with various mediums and styles. At the conclusion of the course, students will have explored and applied their own ideas and topics relating to a sustained investigation.
Our experienced online instructors provide excellent guidance and critique each student individually. Every student receives their own projects and exercises and has essential resources available to them. Learning to develop a work of art from initial concept to finished work will be important for students to learn in order to make and improve on their artwork. This work will be included in the Sustained Investigation section of the AP Art and Design course, in which 15 works centered around a theme will be created. The Selected Works section will also be part of the portfolio of work. That section contains their five best works.
